Following up in the Marvel Line, one of Sideshow’s most established and arguably most profitable licenses by guess, is the Thor Premium Format statue. Aside from the Indiana Jones Premium Format announced this year, this was likely the most anticipated piece from this manufacturer in 2008 and it saw a rush on it’s Exclusive Edition’s Preorder Page in March, crashing the website. Can it live up to the hype?
Sculpted by Martin Canale and the Gore Group, Sideshow has managed to successfully place this team as a brand for powerful and expressive sculpting within their artist portfolio and the guys again do not disappoint on this Premium Format especially in the department of conceptual design. The pose is something of an experiment at this scale because it makes the statue very tall which begs the question of possible balancing problems versus an unnatural body stance. The final product however worked out just fine thanks to a human modeling approach and it’s size has the potential to wow a PF collector because Thor’s stature well above average human body size catapults this statue to Cinemaquette heights.
I have been waiting for the Thor Premium Format for long time. The sneak peek looks awesome. Head looking up and it seems that the right arm may be upwards with Mjolnir in hand. I hope the Exclusive has changing arm with another hammer and head change with beard like the Captain America PF that stands pround in my collection. That would be fantastic. Another job well done Sideshow. Now for a Loki Premium Format.
The Premium Format Thor figure presents the heroic God of Thunder standing tall with Mjolnir to the sky. The figure is sculpted to Sideshow1's museum-quality standard, down to the billowing cape and detailed musculature, and completed with real fabric costuming. Each piece is hand-cast of high-quality polystone, hand finished and individually numbered.
