I actually have the Philips Satinelle Ice Epilator HP6492. This is the corded version, and aside from that minor inconvenience, I love it. It's quick, easy and painless. I don't use the bulky ice pack and also took out the massager so that the epilator could get closer to my skin. So much easier and funner than waxing, less abrasive/harsh on my skin than cream depilatories. Never tried shaving though, so can't offer a comparison to that. My legs always feel great the next day and for weeks after. My skin needs some time to calm down after, but this was also the case with waxing. I'm not very hairy, this might be why I find it painless and easy. I also like the epilator's longer shape; it resembles a razor and makes more sense to me in terms of how I handle it. I find it a lot quieter than my roommate's epilator old Braun epilator and it seems to get a smoother finish too (but she was quite hairy). All in all, very efficient and effective for the time and price.
I recently bought an epilator and being the wuss I am, I thought if I bought one with an ice pack it would take the initial sting out of it. What a waste of time that was. The epilator is OK. The ice pack on the other hand is useless. It didn't do anything other than get in the way. In the end I just used the epilator without the ice pack and was surprised by how much it doesn't hurt. The annoying thing about this particular machine is that it only gets the really thick hairs and leaves the finer ones. What's the point of that? I end up shaving my legs. This machine is also very noisy. My mum has a 15 year old Braun epilator that's quieter than this. Lawnmowers and low flying aircraft are quieter than the Philips Satinelle.
