The LG-GD900 is a fashion-focused slider with high end specifications phone from LG Electronics that was publicly unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2009.[1] It is claimed to be the world’s first transparent design phone. It comes with a dedicated Bluetooth headset that is also transparent in parts.
The GD900 uses the same S-class user interface we've seen on the LG Arena. One of our biggest complaints about the Arena was that the touch screen wasn't as responsive as we'd like, but based on the phones we tried, it's running with more vim and vigor on the GD900. The little spinning cube is still useless, but there are about five different ways to access each feature, and adding gestures means there should be a user-interface option for every user, if they can be bothered to learn them all.
The bottom line: The touch-screen LG GD900 Crystal's transparent, touch-sensitive, glass keypad looks cool but is pretty pointless. And, while two touch-sensitive surfaces mean there are more places to poke, it also means it's easy to make erroneous taps. While the phone sports plenty of interesting features, their implementation is sometimes lacking.
We're all for cool stuff that has no point besides looking awesome. Take, for example, Nate's hair. But plenty of pointless gimmicks just take up too much space. The LG GD900 Crystal has gimmicks galore, but too many of them get in the way of a smooth user experience, and the magic of a see-through keyboard isn't enough to make us fall in love with this phone.
