The CrunchBang project has a new build server. Dr. Bunsen is a new VPS on Linode, running Debian Lenny. The server has been added to the CrunchBang Project=’s small, but growing number of virtual and real private servers. This new server is being funded by the projectt’s use of Google AdSense, sales from our shop, contributions by our only commercial sponsor, R1Soft Linux Hot Copy, and by donations collected from generous donors within our community. A big thank you goes out to everyone who has contributed to the project, you are all stars!
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew is a Muppet from The Muppet Show, performed by Dave Goelz. He is a bald, bespectacled, lab-coated scientist who would do periodic science segments from Muppet Labs, where the future is being made today. The muppet has no eyes, only completely transparent, lensless glasses. This makes him appear a very absent-minded intellectual. He was named after Robert Bunsen, inventor of the Bunsen Burner.
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew's name was derived from the traditional piece of lab equipment, the Bunsen burner, plus the fact that his head was shaped and colored like a honeydew melon. He was rumored to be modeled after Lew Grade, whose company ITC Entertainment produced The Muppet Show. Henson responded in a Judy Harris interview:
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew is the resident scientist on The Muppet Show, and host of the Muppet Labs sketches. He is a Live-Hand Muppet. In season one of The Muppet Show he worked alone, but in season two, his assistant Beaker was added to the show. Bunsen is always eager to show off his latest scientific discovery, but his excitement about progress tends to render him short-sighted. Beaker usually ends up being harmed by Dr. Honeydew's inventions. Bunsen Honeydew's name comes from the scientific instrument called the Bunsen burner, and the shape of his head, which looks like a honeydew melon.
