Summary:Bought them in 1987, after auditioning the DM2000 and the DM 3000. The 2000 was a smaller, 2 way system vs the 2 1/2 way of the 3000. I like the clarity and sound stage, comparable to the early 801 and I assume -in terms of price and quality- analogous to the relative current 704 series. Overall clean reproduction by the soft dome tweeter and mid-range/woofer and tight bass. Placement wasnt difficult. The electronic time delay in the crossover to produce a coherent phase between the tweeter and woofers was a great design. As all great speakers, you need quality material downstream. Their tendency towards soft music reproduction makes it easy to drive with either tube or solid state. Over the span of 10 years that I kept them (to make way for the 802N) , I had an excellent time listening to them.
The motorized condenser head knows the correct position for each magnification. The Leica DM3000 automatically adjusts light intensity to each objective’s requirements, stores previously used light values for each magnification, and boosts efficiency when changing between two magnifications thanks to its unique toggle mode.
As a modular system microscope Leica DM3000 can be configured to fit an individual’s unique physical requirements using a variety of ergonomic equipment, like tilting tubes, and ergonomic modules. Its unique height-adjustable focus knobs are patented and allow the adjustment to the hand size and posture of the user.
Initially we didn’t want to research this product as we didn’t think anyone was interested due to the relatively high price. However, we quickly realized that not only did this product have solely positive reviews, but it had reviews from people who were literally blown away with the functions of the Margaritaville DM3000.
