It was founded in 1971 as DIC Audiovisuel by Frenchman Jean Chalopin in Paris, as a subsidiary of Radio-Television Luxembourg (RTL). DIC was originally an acronym for Diffusion, Information et Communication. The company was also known as The Incredible World of DiC, DiC. Audiovisuel, DiC Enterprises, DIC Animation City and DIC Productions. In 2008, the studio closed its doors, and was reallocated to Cookie Jar Entertainment.[5]

The first season of the DiC series was mainly standalone episodes that focused on establishing new team members and plots. The second season of the DiC show lowered the animation budget but began a series of two part episodes, which often told a deeper story involving more dramatic life and death situations for the Joes. If you look at the landscape 10 years ago, there were basically three networks running their shows on Saturday morning. Now you have first run syndication, Fox, basic cable, pay cable with Disney, a little bit on HBO, and home video. In addition, the international marketplace is exploding as a result of new technology.
