Dance Dance Revolution Universe is the thirteenth home version of Dance Dance Revolution released in the United States. It was released by Konami on February 27, 2007, for the Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console - the first DDR game on a seventh generation console. About 65 songs are available in total in this version. The game was announced in a press release by Konami on May 9, 2006, and unveiled at the E³ expo in Los Angeles that same day. As with the Ultramix series for the original Xbox, Universe makes extensive use of Xbox Live, including online play, player ranking, and downloadable song packs via purchase with Microsoft Points. This game also features music from Chris Brown, Verbalicious, Cascada, Jamiroquai, New Order, Goldfrapp, Kylie Minogue, The Sugarhill Gang, Depeche Mode, and others.
The main criticism of Dance Dance Revolution Universe is its Quest Mode, which has been a part of the franchise since Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 3. The problems arise with the Quest Mode being the only way for players to unlock the songs in the game, which is a stark contrast from other games in the series where songs were unlocked by either buying the songs through a point system or by normal gameplay in the Arcade Mode. Another problem arises is the high level of difficulty of the computer A.I. and the fact that the mode is more catered towards advanced players of the game, which makes the mode very frustrating for novice players.
DanceDanceRevolution celebrates its tenth anniversary with DanceDanceRevolution® UNIVERSE 3 dancing its way to you with an all-new sleek enhanced interface, fun new modes and settings for players of all skill levels, cool smash-hit songs, robust online and offline support, and exciting new exclusives!
