According to the New Yorker, Lynch's cow never saw public display in New York. Organizers of the Cow Parade even tried to deny that Lynch had made a cow. Join us at 1pm at the Pulitzer Fountain in front of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan for the festivities! Parks Commissioner Henry Stern and CowParade Holdings President Jerry Elbaum will be present for the ceremonial first cow installation. The parade of cows originated in Switzerland in 1998. This fanciful art exhibit mooved on to Chicago and New York in 1999. Houston was host to over 300 unique cows. The CowParade art show has been seen in London, Las Vegas, Australia, and Uruguay. These exciting bovine events are made possible through the sponsorship of each city, corporate sponsors and the artists without whose imagination, the Cow Parade would not be possible.
While every CowParade form is the same, each is given it's own personality by inspiration of the artist. The life sized fiberglass cows are painted and decorated by the artists in each city. Some reflect the flavor of the host city, such as Broadway Baby of New York or the Yellow Rose cow of Houston, Texas. Some cows use a play on words - Cowabunga, Moo Jersey Diner, Udder Romance and Vincent Van Cogh. In Houston, Texas a limited edition CowParade Chronicow figurine was given to subscribers of the Houston Chronicle to celebrate the paper's 100th anniversary.
