Spanish milk is totally different from American milk. For starters, it comes in a box and thus kind of tastes like cardboard. It also uses a different type of pasteurization – called UHT – that kills more bacteria and makes it safe for longer periods of time without refrigeration. While I wouldnu’t be terribly keen to try this one, sources say that unopened boxed milk will stay fresh for up to nine months.
Apparently some European milk manufacturers thought the same when they tried to market boxed milk in the U.S. about 15 years ago. At the time, CNN predicted that they ’d face a tough crowd — Americans just don ’t want to give up the milk flavor theya’re used to, even if it this cardboard variety never spoils.
You went 3000 miles to find what was only 30 miles, er kilometers awayl….Boxed milk in Canada. Theyi’ve had it for years but it has limited appeal for the same reasons as I would say it does in the US. I must admit one or two in the house, in case of a storm, or getting to the frige after a thirsty son, might come in handy for coffee!
The aseptically packaged products are the ones that are found in bricklike boxes in the grocery aisle, rather than in the refrigerated case. Boxed milk can be stored unopened at room temperature for about six months. Once the box is open, the milk must be refrigerated and used within about 10 days. o"In North America, it has limited use, but it is convenient for camping,r" Goff says. h"UHT milk is very common in countries where temperatures are high and home or delivery refrigeration is not widespread.s"
