Heroes (1998) is a short novel by American author Robert Cormier aimed at teenagers. The book is set in Frenchtown, New Jersey during World War II. The novel focuses on the protagonist, Francis Joseph Cassavant's return to Frenchtown after coming back disfigured from the war. The book has many themes that deal with revenge and anger, along with the social aspects and people's perception of what a 'hero' actually is. Francis has facial injuries after jumping on a grenade. His highschool crush, Nicole, gets raped by his mentor, Larry LaSalle. Because of this, Francis seeks revenge.

I also received this book as part of the Amazon Vine program and I let it sit on my gigantic pile of books for too long. I just pulled it out this week and was not horribly impressed, as you could see from my review. I posted it on Amazon.com as well. As of right now, it is the only 2 star review.I found your back and forth with one of the authors in the comments section to be quite enlightening. I actually linked them to my review on my blog. As I said in my review, I am not for hiding the shortcomings of heroes, but I am also not for celebrating those same shortcomings simply because the person is (or was) famous.D
