An LCD projector is a type of video projector for displaying video, images or computer data on a screen or other flat surface. It is a modern analog of the slide projector or overhead projector. To display images, LCD (liquid crystal display) projectors typically send light from a Metal halide lamp through a prism that separates light to three poly silicon panels – one each for the red, green, and blue components of the video signal. As polarized light passes through the panels (combination of polarizer, LCD panel and analyzer), individual pixels can be opened to allow light to pass or closed to block the light. The combination of open and closed pixels can produce a wide range of colors and shades in the projected image.

Early LCD systems were used with existing overhead projectors. The LCD system did not have a light source of its own: it was built on a large plate that sat on top of the projector in place of the transparencies. This provided a stop-gap solution in the era when the computer was not yet the universal display medium, creating a market for LCD projectors before their current main use became popular.

Compatibility When picking a projector to go with a notebook computer it is recommended that you consider picking one that is exactly the same resolution as the computer that you plan to use. If your computer outputs at 800x600 then get an 800x600 projector. If 1024x768 then get a projector at that resolution. The reason is that LCD projectors have a set number of pixels. When the projector or panel is not exactly matched to your computer then either the unit will not work or it will interpolate what pixels to use to best match the computer and often you will find that your fonts and graphics suffer.

Hello my name is Mark Daly and today I'm going to talk about how a data projector works. A data projector is a piece of hardware used to display images or screen shots from your computer or laptop to a wall or a big screen. The way a data projector works is through a VGA or SVIDEO or RCA connection from the computer to the data projector. Data projectors today are pretty portable, they're not much bigger than the laptops. Some common uses for a data projector would be to take your laptop with a presentation on it into a conference room and be able to display your screen or your presentation in a much larger format on a wall or a big screen. Data projectors of course need a power source and an image input source which would be from your computer or your laptop. And that is how a data projector works.
