Alexopoulos began his career in the academy of Panathinaikos FC and wore the green jersey for 7 years. He was then transferred to Iraklis F.C. and after a year to Egaleo F.C., where he become a leading figure. In the summer of 2005 AEK Athens signed him. Giorgos made 30 appearances in Greek League and also scored 3 goals until he was seriously injured. His ability on the field is uncanny. His nickname is The Lumberjack . On 16 April 2008 he returned to full training and is expected to be 100% ready for the next season. In the 2008/09 season Alexopoulos returned and made 12 appearances serving as backup to Daniel Majstorovic and Sotirios Kyrgiakos. Alexopoulos joined Ergotelis in the summer of 2010 as a free agent.
Andreas Alexopoulos, MD, MPH, is a Staff Physician in the Epilepsy Center of the Neurological Institute, located on the main campus of Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed in 2005 subsequent to completion of a fellowship in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology. Prior to his appointment, he was Chief Resident in adult neurology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York City. Dr. Alexopoulos is certified in neurology and in clinical neurophysiology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he is certified in MRI/CT by the American Society of Neuroimaging. His specialty interests include epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology and translational research in epilepsy.
Dr. Alexopoulos received his medical degree from the University of Athens, graduating with honors. He served in the Hellenic navy as a Physician Petty Officer. He returned to the United States for an internship in medicine and surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Boston, Mass. He is licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts, Indiana, Ohio, as well as Greece and the United Kingdom.
Dr. Alexopoulos is principal investigator or co-investigator of several research trials. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, and he has contributed chapters to medical textbooks in his field. He has twice received the Cleveland Clinic’s World Class Service Recognition Award. Dr. Alexopoulos is a member of the American Epilepsy Society, the Society of Neuroscience and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, among others. He is a Diplomate of neurology and the subspecialty of clinical neurophysiology of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
